Art, for me, is a visceral language—one that communicates the intangible complexities of human emotion and experience. My practice revolves around abstract expressionism, a medium that allows me to channel energy, movement, and memory into dynamic visual narratives. Working across painting, mixed media, and sculpture, I aim to create works that are both physically commanding and emotionally evocative.
The central tenet of my work lies in duality: chaos and control, abstraction and figuration, spontaneity and intention. This duality mirrors the inherent contradictions of the human condition. My process often begins with a burst of intuitive, gestural mark-making, which I then refine, layer, and disrupt to create compositions that feel alive and layered with meaning. This physicality—the act of moving paint, scraping, building, and eroding—is integral to my work. Each gesture becomes a record of a moment, an emotion, or a thought.
Having spent two decades as a care assistant, my art is deeply informed by my observations of resilience, vulnerability, and connection. Working with individuals who communicate in non-traditional ways has heightened my sensitivity to the ways we express ourselves beyond words. This understanding permeates my art, as I explore how color, texture, and form can convey narratives that are universal yet deeply personal.
In recent years, I have been drawn to the possibilities of incorporating sustainable and tactile materials into my practice. These elements offer a richness and fragility that echo the themes I explore—identity, impermanence, and the interplay between the personal and the collective. My current investigations also involve integrating sculptural elements to challenge the boundaries between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms.
Ultimately, my work invites viewers to pause and engage—to feel, question, and reflect. I strive to create pieces that resonate on both a sensory and intellectual level, offering a space for connection and introspection. As I transition to dedicating myself fully to my art, I am energized by the possibilities ahead and committed to producing work that challenges, inspires, and endures.
